Blackburn boss Allardyce ponders recalling Fielding, Bunn

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce may recall one of his goalkeepers away on-loan after losing Paul Robinson to a calf injury. The former Spurs stopper pulled up after 15 minutes of Saturday's 3-1 defeat with a calf strain.Allardyce could choose to recall either Mark Bunn or Frank Fielding who are both currently on loan with Sheffield United and Rochdale respectively."We'll have to have a look at that and obviously take that up next week and see where and who we should call, whether it would be Bunn or Fielding," he told the Rovers website.

Blackburn boss Allardyce: Robinson setback good chance for Brown

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce was disappointed to lose goalkeeper Paul Robinson to a calf injury during their defeat at Tottenham. The former Spurs stopper pulled up after 15 minutes of Saturday's 3-1 defeat with a calf strain and will be assessed by physios as soon as possible to find out the damage."It’s not clever, he has a calf injury," confirmed Allardyce."We'll have to have the calf scanned as soon as we can to see the extent of the tear and then see how long it would take to repair that and get him back fit and well."It gives Jason an opportunity to come into the fray and...

Tottenham striker Defoe: West Ham grounding was making of me

Tottenham ace Jermain Defoe says he owes his career to manager Harry Redknapp and former club West Ham United.Defoe was the mark again for Spurs in yesterday's win over Blackburn Rovers. As boss of West Ham 11 years ago, Redknapp swooped to take Defoe from the FA National School of Excellence at Lilleshall where Defoe had been given a scholarship.Defoe told the Mirror: “I was only 16 when I went to have a look at West Ham but the manager at the time, Harry, was great to me. As soon as I walked in I saw players like Ian Wright, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand. As a young boy...

Tottenham boss Redknapp: Bale has fantastic future ahead of him

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was delighted with the man-of-the-match Gareth Bale after ther 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.Bale was given the man-of-the-match award for giving Spanish veteran Michel Salgado problems on the left flank."He's learning the game and growing up. He came here with a lot of hype and he's still young," Redknapp said."He's defended better at left-back and now he's moved to left midfield and has been equally good for me there. He has a fantastic future in front of him. He's top drawer."

Tottenham 3-1 Blackburn

The consolation for Sam Allardyce was that he did not do Rafael Benítez a favour. Had Allardyce's Rovers stunted Tottenham's push for a top-four finish and, indirectly, helped Liverpool and Benítez, it might have stuck in his jowls. Allardyce cannot see eye-to-eye with the Liverpool manager, to put it mildly. The Blackburn manager, though, endured a frustrating afternoon as his team's woeful away form continued. They started brightly and had a decent shout for a penalty turned down, but when you concede the sorts of goal they did, you generally get what you deserve.Tottenham were not...

Blackburn striker Roberts taunts Liverpool boss Benitez: You need us!

Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts says they can hit back at the taunts from Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez with victory at Tottenham today.Ironically the Kop chief is now praying Blackburn can do him a favour by beating one of their rivals for fourth place.Striker Roberts, 32, said: "People at Liverpool can have their opinions - we try not to take too much notice of it. We know what we're good at and we'll carry on trying to upset people and win games."Liverpool will be looking to us for a favour now - it's funny how football works like that, isn't it?"

Tottenham boss Redknapp refuses to criticise Blackburn style

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp refuses to follow Rafa Benitez's lead in criticising the style of football employed by Sam Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers.Redknapp - who locks horns with Big Sam at White Hart Lane today - says his record stands up with the best.He said: "Everyone plays how they play, they have their own style. I have the way I want to play, Blackburn have their way of playing."Whatever Sam does, he has been one of the most successful managers, doing what he's done with what he's had."In the last 10 years he has done fantastically and nearly got the England manager's job - he was...

Tottenham Hotspur v Blackburn Rovers

A lunchtime kick-off gives Tottenham a chance to put some early distance between themselves and those seeking to dislodge them from fourth place. Certainly Spurs cannot afford another of those slip-ups at home which have hampered their pursuit of Champions League football next season. Having won at Ewood Park in December, when Peter Crouch scored twice, and given Blackburn's poor away record, Harry Redknapp's side should get three points today although his attack will need to improve on last weekend's barren FA Cup performance at Fulham. A point would satisfy Sam Allardyce. David LaceyVenue...
